Description
The course aims to teach delegates basic aspects of dealing with emergencies, with an emphasis on those involving children. 'Life threatening' situations are covered as well as recognising and responding to some of the more common ailments that may be encountered when working with children.
Objectives
On completion of the course, delegates will be able to recognise and deal with:
· The principles of first aid
· Emergency actions
· Unconscious casualties
· A casualty whose heart has stopped
· Severe and minor bleeding
· Dressing and first aid kits
· Burns and scalds
· Shock
· Poisoning
· The risk of infection, HIV, hepatitis
· Head injuries
· Asthma
· Epilepsy
· Diabetes
· Common childhood ailments - chicken pox, measles, scabies, impetigo, head lice, threadworm and
ring worm (Others may be discussed as required if time permits.)
Prerequisites
Nil.
Suitability
The course is ideal for people who do not require a fully certificated first-aid qualification but, because of their role in working with and/or caring for children, feel that a basic knowledge of the subject is essential.
Qualification
On completion of the course, delegates will receive an attendance certificate.
