3 Day H.S.E. First Aid Work Course (FAW)
If you have identified that first-aiders are needed in your workplace, they must have a valid certificate of competence in FAW or emergency first aid at work (EFAW). EFAW training enables a first-aider to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill while at work. FAW training includes EFAW and also equips the first-aider to apply first aid to a range of specific injuries and illnesses.
To determine whether or not you require FAW or EFAW trained personnel in your organisation, the SHE have provided an online assessment tool to support employers in their decision surrounding their duties and requirements in terms of providing trained first aiders in the workplace. The assessment tool can be found here on the HSE website:
FAW courses involve at least 18 hours of training and are run over a minimum of three days and Emergency First Aid Solutions Ltd are approved by the HSE for the purpose of providing these courses.
FAW and EFAW certificates last for three years. Before their certificates expire, first-aiders will need to undertake an FAW requalification course or an EFAW course, as appropriate, to obtain another three-year certificate.
HSE strongly recommends that first-aiders undertake annual refresher training, over half a day, during any three-year FAW/EFAW certification period. Although not mandatory, this will help qualified first-aiders maintain their basic skills and keep up to date with any changes to first-aid procedures. The training organisations referred to above can run annual refresher courses.
At the end of the course candidates will be competent in the following:
- Resuscitation
- Shock
- Bleeding
- Unconsciousness
- First Aid Boxes (Required Contents)
- Transporting Casualties
- Bones, Muscles & Joints
- Minor Injuries
- Burns & Scalds
- Eye Injuries
- Poisons
- Record Keeping
- Hygiene in First Aid
- Communication in an Emergency First Aid and Minor Injuries
We can now offer courses at short notice, as the HSE no longer require us to give 28 days notice. We also offer a two day First Aid at Work Refresher.
